What I clearly show is that training is nothing more than an intervention at the relational level.  The relational half truth of it all is that this is the primary influencing agent throughout.  How these relational dominoes fall depend on what is being promoted via the approach, methodology and ideology.  Rituals and routines can be a complete waste of time if they fail to promote relational change which is meaningful enough to push back unwanted behavior and keep it in check.  I describe the pack roles as the tree with behaviors as the branches.   The root of the problem is a misalignment of the roles.  Behavior issues involving fear and anxiety are nearly impossible to fix for those who fail to understand this relational influence.  The fix involves reverse psychology which is completely opposite of the learning based approach.  This is the reason why so many dogs are left holding the bag of the lead role or given drugs to mask the problem even after weeks or months going through the motions of training.  I describe the all too common issue of physical response and relational disconnect and how this can happen.  Those who are indoctrinated to learning based ideology cannot see or understand it.  That is the reason why one dog owner will be successful while another will fail within the same obedience class.  The issue isn’t with the dog or owner as is often the excuse but rather the ideology and approach.
